Wild
Stormes didn't happen!
Despite
the efforts of Andrea and myself there wasn't enough support
out there to make an event that was viable. I think that people
just got the wrong idea about what we had intended for the evening.
For those that thought it was just a meal in an Indian Restaurant
then you were so wrong. For the few that decided to turn up
anyway they fast realized that the evening could have been unbelievable.
I guess sadly that the UK's TG community is not ready yet to
go a little upmarket. So seedy bars and pubs still rule and
with it a stigma of a generally downmarket image for the TG.
We may try again but don't hold the breath!.
However
if you want a good night out and a decent Indian meal in one
of London's leading restaurants in a relaxed and TG friendly
atmosphere then try The
Anarkali
in Chiswick west London. I am often to be found there on a thursday
evening.

Sir
Richard Branson
Well
this is overdue! Richard of Virgin fame and flamboyant entrepeneur
who has never been afraid to take up a little cross dressing.
Now I like a businessman who writes to the Chairman of Quantas
telling him and showing him what he would look like wearing
a sexy Virgin Stewardess's uniform. Good one Richard! So come
on Richard can you not do similar letters to Mr Bush and Mr
Blair! - We can help with the graphics.

OPEN
LETTER TO GEOFF DIXON FROM RICHARD BRANSON
Dear Geoff,
I
was amused to read Qantas’s completely dismissive comments
about Virgin Atlantic’s chances of getting permission
to fly to Australia. It would be prudent for you to remind yourself
of your and James Strong’s equally dismissive comments
about Virgin Blue’s chances of entering the Australian
market only three years ago.
Here goes! This is the gist of what you said:
“Virgin
Blue is a lot of media hype.”
“This
market is not big enough to sustain Virgin Blue.”
“Virgin
Blue doesn’t have deep enough pockets to cope.”
“Qantas
will employ any option to see off this interloper.”
“They’ll
be unlikely to survive a year.”
“Claims
by Richard Branson that domestic fares are high are a misnomer!”
(my exclamation mark) Here is what James Strong, your former
C.E.O, said about Virgin Blue and myself:
“If
you listen to most of the pretenders there is a distinct air
that they are making it up as they go along. In terms of real
plans and real commitment you could fire a shot gun up the main
street and not hit anybody.”
Yet three years later you are telling your staff that this same
airline, “that was making it up as it went along”
and that now has 30% of the market could, “Drive Qantas
out of business!” We also find it flattering, if a little
silly, that three years on you now have spies hiding behind
pot plants in the Virgin terminal trying to work out why we
are so successful.
Even if some of your comments don’t suggest it, your actions
indicate you are taking us seriously. But let’s not take
ourselves too seriously. I would like to propose a friendly
challenge!
If Virgin Atlantic fails to fly to Australia (within 18 months,
say) I’d be prepared to suffer the indignity of donning
one of your stewardesses brand new designer outfits and will
work your flight from London to Australia serving your customers
throughout.
However, if Virgin Atlantic does fly to Australia you would
do so instead. On our inaugural flight from London to Australia
you would wear one of our beautiful red Virgin Stewardesses
uniforms and serve our inaugural guests all the way to Australia.
Oh and in case you were wondering, we’re not hung up on
flying through Hong Kong. You might end up doing your days work
experience through Singapore, Thailand or Malaysia instead.
This is the challenge. If you believe in what Qantas said to
the press there can’t be any risk for you. We expect your
response within one week. Our inaugural flights are great fun
and I look forward to welcoming you on board personally. Oh
and by the way my preferred drink is ………..!
Kind regards,
Richard.

Desires
on hold. By Michelle Jane. 10th May 2004.
All
of the following is true and has helped me immensely to
put it into writing. It will also help, when I tell the
whole story to my family.
First
of all let me introduce myself. My name is Mike, in my
early sixties and I am semi- retired. I have always enjoyed
dressing and for a very long time have realised that I
am transgendered.
I
was always slight and the smallest in my classes going
through school. I am not terribly masculine or not really
been into sports or physical activities.
At
primary school I related with the girls far more than
the boys and had many girl friends. When I left primary
school went to an all boys school. I didn’t fit
in terribly well, but made a few friends and was relatively
settled.
I
was very young when I started dressing, probably only
five or six and used to wear my cousins knickers and skirts
any chance I got. I didn’t understand it but even
then got mental satisfaction. This has carried on intermittently
ever since. I used to kid myself that I was just a cross
dresser but deep down I knew that it was much more. Through
my teens I envied young girls and wished I could be more
like them.
The
feelings gradually increased but I managed to push them
away when I met the girl who was to become my wife in.
I was eighteen and she sixteen. We had a fairly active
sex life, nothing adventurous but enjoyable just the same.
We married in 1963 when I was twenty one. I never told
her of my secret, much to my regret. We were fairly happy
and I managed to dress up occasionally when she was out
at work. I did shift work so was at home some days when
she was working.
When
we had been married for fifteen years or so I plucked
up courage and told her of my desires to dress. She allowed
me to for a while but never really accepted it and soon
stopped it, even though I carried on in secret. She caught
me several times with the ensuing rows.
After
a while, whenever we had an argument or any falling out
she started throwing it back in my face and often becomes
rude and abusive.
However,
as I had fathered four children it was not possible to
do anything about it. I had considered leaving my wife
and children and changing over but my sense of responsibility
and deep love of my family, excluded me from deserting
them. Also my wife was prone to being rather strict with
the children and losing her temper and becoming spiteful.
Her mother treated her in a similar way, but more severe,
bordering on abuse and so I suppose it was inevitable
that she would follow suit. I hate to think of how she
would have treated them if I had left home.
I
decided that when all of my children had married and left
home, would be the time to do it. Unfortunately, when
the last was due to leave home, my Wife started to develop
serious pains in her legs and back. I decided to put on
hold leaving until she was well.
After
a couple of years, a large tumour was discovered in her
spine, fortunately benign, urgent surgery had to be carried
out. The tumour was so serious, that removal caused nerve
damage that has left her disabled. I have become her carer
and any plans to leave home and live the life I so deeply
desired had to be forgotten, or so I thought.
However
being transgendered is not so easily cast aside or forgotten.
It starts to take over all waking hours and thoughts and
you cannot look at pretty girls without being jealous,
wishing that it was you.
I
am under five foot six inches in height and over the last
ten years or so I have put on a lot of weight. Probably
through depression as much as anything where my weight
reached fifteen stone by about the middle of last year.
I decided that I must do something about it. Nine months
later I am down to twelve and a half stone and my target
weight is to get down to less than ten and a half stone.
Also at the same time I parted company with my employers
and started up my own company with my son, which we run
from home. This means I get out of the house even less
and has increased the feeling of being trapped.
Over
the last couple of years the feelings have got worse until
recently I have started, secretly on a hormone regime,
for comfort as much as anything. Hence, one of the reasons
for losing weight. I was probably kidding myself that
I was taking them for comfort. It obviously went much
deeper and was probably a subconscious desire to change
gender.
I
started on hormones in September 1993, when I obtained
ten packets of Loestrin 20 which contain 20mcg of ethinyloestradial
and 1mg norethisterone, which lasted until the beginning
of February 204. I now know that I was taking insufficient
dosage as these had little effect, apart from some increased
nipple sensitivity and some reduction in the size of my
testicles. I was not able to obtain any more and purchased
a ‘phyto hormone regime’, from Transformation.
This was very expensive and did not even maintain what
development that had started.
I
found a site on the internet where I was able to download
a regime that was tried and tested over a period of time
and was able to purchase proper hormones from a linked
site. The regime was for 6- 8 mg estradial per day, 200mg
of aldactone, 5 mg finesteride and 10mg of provera generic.
A
couple of months down the line, I have started developing
breasts, which my wife is beginning to notice and gets
very abusive. I deny it and say it is her imagination.
My testicles have drastically reduced in size and erections
are taking longer to achieve and difficult to maintain.
This is not a problem as sex with my wife is a thing of
the past and the surgery, which caused her disability
has left her with no feelings in her vagina. The glands
behind my nipples are also getting quite large and very
tender. I do not know how large my breasts will grow,
but my mother was quite large breasted. I do not have
any sisters, but my two daughters have also been well
endowed. I do not know if this has any bearing on final
size. If the speed of development, is anything to go by,
and if they continue to develop over the next year or
two, I should not be too disappointed. I don’t know
if the amount of male development has a bearing on how
much I will feminise, but my body hair is quite fine and
fairly sparse and my muscular development is not a lot
more than appears on most women. My Adams apple is not
noticeable and my voice is fairly high pitched for a man.
I am often mistaken for a woman on the phone.
Sooner
or later I will have to tell her all. This will be the
hardest thing that I will ever do. At this point she will
have to decide whether she can live with it or make other
arrangements, because I have now passed the point where
I could stop it, even if I wanted to. Now I have made
the decision, I feel much happier in myself and look forward
to getting it out in the open where I can move on. I will
be quite willing to carry on as her carer, but this must
be on my terms.
The
hormone regime that I am on is proving quite expensive,
probably about £130.00 per month. I will probably
try switching to a Diane 35 regime which should be a bit
less expensive. However whatever the cost, will be worth
it.
I
will also call my two sons and two daughters to a family
discussion and tell them all. I hope that they will accept
what I am and not turn against me. If they do, this would
distress me but not make me change my mind. I don’t
think it will become much of a surprise because my wife
has not been discrete when she was being abusive and I
am sure that they must have heard when they were in bed
I know that this will be a very difficult and emotional
time for all, but unavoidable. I will not make them decide
between my wife and myself and would hope the she would
give the same consideration. However they are al adults,
the youngest 25, strong willed and I think they will make
their own decisions and not be influenced.
I
cannot live the rest of my life under these circumstances
and feel I owe it to myself to follow my deep and uncontrollable
desires. I have given up most of my life to my family
and feel the years that are left are mine and will do
what I need to, to reach fulfilment.
At
this stage I do not know if I will go all the way and
have re-assignment surgery. I would like to but do not
know if it would be possible at my age. However, one step
at a time. I have at least started on the road and the
next step will be facial hair removal and starting to
dress in a more feminine manner and the removal of my
testicles. I will also get proper medical advice, which
I know I will have to if I am to progress to living full
time as a women. This I am now determined to do.
One
advantage I have is running my own company so employment
is not a problem and if the company maintains it’s
current progress, I should be financially secure.
I
have some regrets, the main one not being honest in the
first place and trapping myself in circumstances that
restricted action. However, in the sixties it was a subject
that was rarely discussed and little known about. I do
wish that I had plucked up courage long ago and would
now be living as a woman. However it has not all been
bad, I do not regret having children and love them all
dearly. They have given us eight wonderful grandsons,
two each. I will update my story as things progress and
hope that my story gives courage to others not to make
the same mistakes and to follow your desires.

GMC
inquiry into gender change expert
Russell Reid's methodology attacked by Charing Cross GID
Psychiatrists
David
Batty
Tuesday January 20, 2004
The Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,3604,1126835,00.html
The
UK's best known expert in transsexualism is being investigated
by the General Medical Council after claims he repeatedly
put his patients' health at risk, the Guardian has learned.
Consultant psychiatrist Russell Reid, a specialist in
gender identity disorders (GID), allegedly breached standards
of care by prescribing patients with sex-changing hormones
and referring them for genital surgery without adequately
assessing them.
Twelve
cases in which Dr Reid, a member of the Royal College
of Psychiatrist's committee on gender identity disorder,
allegedly broke the guidelines "to the detriment
of the patients concerned" have been submitted to
the GMC. It is alleged some people later regretted changing
sex. The
complaint was filed by three of the UK's most senior psychiatrists
in GID, who work at the Charing Cross hospital's gender
identity clinic in west London: Donald Montgomery, James
Barratt, and Richard Green, another member of the college's
committee.
Together
with Stuart Lorimer, a senior registrar at the clinic,
they allege Dr Reid has repeatedly breached guidelines
set by the Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria
Association, based in Minneapolis.
The
guidelines lay down "flexible directions" for
the treatment of people with GID, which are not legally
binding and may be modified to suit individual patients.
The standards are "generally supported" by the
college, though it does not formally recognise them. The
psychiatrists claim Dr Reid has not adhered to the guidelines'
minimum eligibility requirements for the prescription
of hormones and referrals for genital surgery. The guidance
states patients should have been living in their desired
gender role for at least three months before prescribed
hormones, or had at least three months of psychotherapy.
Patients should also undergo a minimum of 12 months hormone
therapy and live in their desired gender role for the
same period before referral for gender change surgery.
Dr
Barratt said: "I felt that Dr Reid seemed more often
than not to prescribe hormones to patients in a manner
contrary to published guidelines. "He seemed too
rapidly to refer patients for gender reassignment surgery,
sometimes seemingly without the appropriate second opinions
which would be required by the guidelines. "Some
of the patients would seem to have been inappropriately
referred, and some to have later been unhappy with what
had happened."
But
some of Dr Reid's patients have defended him. Daphne Neal,
an NHS nurse treated by him, said he had prescribed her
with hormones earlier than the guidelines advise, but
stressed she believed this was the best course of action.
She
said: "It is fair to say Dr Reid prescribed me hormones
earlier than the Harry Benjamin guidelines recommend,
I was in fact prescribed hormones on my first visit.
"I
felt that this was appropriate in my case. If I had not
been prescribed hormones at that time I may have been
forced to look for other sources, something I don't really
agree with, as the consequences can be dire."
The
guidelines state that it can be acceptable to provide
drugs to patients earlier "as an alternative to black
market or unsupervised hormone use".
A
GMC spokeswoman confirmed Dr Reid is under investigation.
He
is due to appear today before the GMC's interim orders
committee, which could suspend him or restrict the work
he can perform. These hearings are held when the council
wishes to consider whether patients, the public or the
doctor under investigation would be put at risk if they
continue practising prior to a full investigation. Regardless
of the hearing's outcome, Dr Reid will then appear before
the preliminary practice committee on January 26-27. This
will decide whether there should be a full inquiry by
the professional conduct committee, which has the power
to strike a doctor off the medical register.
There is disagreement among psychiatrists and the transsexual
community over the period patients should spend living
as their desired sex prior to treatment. But Brian Ferguson,
another member of the royal college committee, said in
his view hormones should only be administered to a patient
after "at least two or three" appointments.
Dr Ferguson, a consultant psychiatrist at the Nottingham
Gender Clinic, said many psychiatrists would consider
it "reasonable" for patients to live in their
desired gender role for two years before surgery. He said
he had seen a number of people who changed their minds
quite late in this period.
News
of the investigation has been greeted with dismay by many
in the 5,000-strong transsexual community. Several support
groups have launched a website backing Dr Reid.
Some
fear the GMC inquiry could bolster opposition to the gender
recognition bill, which is currently before parliament.
The bill would allow transsexuals to gain the rights of
their acquired gender. But it has been opposed in the
Lords. A
spokeswoman for the Medical Defence Union, which is representing
Dr Reid, said he did not wish to comment on the investigation
at this stage.
Comment: Dr Reid
is through the first hearing without any substance having
been found to the allegations. He still has a further
hearing and any letters of support from any of you would
be welcome. I enclose a letter sent from this website
to his defence team. We need your help so please write
to the Medical Defence Union asap with your support. If
you have had any negative experience with CCH GID unit
you wish to share with us then send the details to us
here at crissywild.com and we will forward them in confidence.

Dear Mr Kingston,
Re:
Dr Russell Reid
I
write with regard to recent allegations made against Dr
Reid and on behalf of many thousands of readers of www.crissywild.com
the best known transgender resources reference library
in the World.
Dr
Reid has assisted a plethora of trans people over the
years in dealing with gender dysphoria. It is no secret
that the GID psychiatric team at Charing Cross Hospital
has a difference of opinion in their methodology and approach
to that of Dr Reid and it is clear that the complaint
is founded upon this difference rather than on any factual
evidence of any professional impropriety conducted by
Dr Reid. Neither is it true to state that the methodology
adopted by the Charing Cross Hospital GID unit is necessarily
correct.
Many
people write to us to ask for advice and to explain the
mental anguish they are suffering as a result of Gender
Dysphoria and untreated this condition can lead to severe
depression and in a few cases even suicide. Dr Reid has
offered professional treatment lifelines to those who
simply cannot wait years on the NHS or who for other confidential
and personal reasons wish to undertake a private route
in gender reassignment.
The
Harry Benjamin standards are simply guidelines and I am
not aware of any case where hormones or referral to SRS
has been inappropriately recommended by Dr Reid. I also
speak from personal experience of having been a patient
of both Dr Reid and the Charing Cross GID unit. I would
also comment that Dr Reid’s approach and diagnosis
is considerably more sensitive towards his patients than
that adopted by the Charing Cross GID unit.
Crissywild.com
therefore unequivocally supports Dr Reid and takes this
opportunity of thanking him for his work and very high
degree of professionalism in the field of transsexualism.
Sincerely,
Crissy Wild
Update
on Gender Recognition Bill (May/ June 2004)

history of how we got here ...

Progress
of UK Parliament Standing Committees
Some
good news, from the record of recent Commons proceedings
- courtesy Claire McNab (Vice-president, PFC)
Since
the House of Commons passed the Gender Recognition Bill,
PFC has received many enquiries from trans people who
want to know when and how they can get their gender recognition
certificate, their new birth certificates -- and even
arrange the dates for their weddings.
*
The quick answer is: YOU CANNOT APPLY YET. It will be
several months before you will be able to take any steps
with the certainty that they are correct.
*
If you start collecting documents now, you WILL risk of
losing money on inappropriate and unacceptably worded
reports and statutory declarations.
*
As SOON as we know what you will need to do, we WILL LET
YOU KNOW.
*
In the meantime, every request for information sent to
PFC or to the Department of Constitutional Affairs takes
time away from ensuring that the process is implemented
as quickly and as smoothly as possible.
When things are nearly ready, the Gender Recognition Division
of the Department for Constitutional Affairs will run
a big publicity campaign to inform everyone about how
and when to apply. When you need to do anything, Press
For Change will also tell you very loudly, and repeatedly
... and all the other trans organisations will be encouraged
to spread the news too. You won't miss the announcements!
We know that after waiting so long, trans people are rightly
impatient to get legal recognition ... but we do have
to wait a bit longer. There is a lot more work to do before
the government is ready to start processing applications.
In
the meantime, please do not bombard us with too many questions.
We cannot yet tell you exactly how and when you can apply
... and it's much more useful for everybody if we can
concentrate our enegries on helping govt officials sort
out the details, rather than writing lots of "don't
know yet" letters.
Over
the last few weeks, we have been talking at length with
government officials about what happens next, and about
how we can all ensure that you are kept informed of progress.
The Gender Recognition Division hopes to be able to publish
out a rough timetable of what will be happening, but it's
unlikely that they will be able to do that before the
Bill receives Royal Assent.
So here's PFC's own very brief outline of what happens
next:
First,
the Lords considers the Commons amendments to the Bill,
on June 8th.
If
those amendments are accepted (as we expect), Royal Assent
should follow within weeks.
When
parliament is formally notified of the Royal Assent, the
Bill becomes The Gender Recognition Act 2004.
Once
it is enacted, some of the bill's provisions come into
effect immediately, giving government the legal power
to prepare for implementation. Other provisions -- including
the right to apply for Gender Recognition -- must wait
until the minister makes an order, which he won't do until
everything is ready. One
of the first bits of preparation will be the regulations
needed to make the Act work.
For
example:
*
clause 4(5) provides for regulations to set out what a
GRC will look like
*
clause 7 requires a regulation to set the fees charged
for an application
*
clause 22(5) allows for regulations to permit disclosure
in certain circumstances. Ministers may well want to use
that power to clearly specify when the police or other
authorities (such as the Inland Revenue or the Benefits
Agency) may be informed about a person having a GRC
(Some
preparatory work will already have been done on the regulations,
but nothing can be finalised until the bill has beeen
enacted. The govt will probably wait to lay all the regulations
before parliament in one go -- so don't expect them to
appear before the autumn)
The
Gender Recognition Panels also need to be established
... but first, the rules and procedures must be drawn
up and approved, and only then can recruitment begin.
All those steps take time: e.g. other rules require a
fixed (and lengthy) period for the panel members' jobs
to be advertised.
Of
course, it's not just a matter of recruiting the panels:
to ensure consistency, they will need formal guidelines
on how to assess applications. Meanwhile, others will
be at work designing the application packs, and triple-checking
that there are no errors. Staff will have to be recuited
to process the applications, and trained in the job ...
and "dummy runs" will be done to check that
the process works properly. We
could list many more steps that we know of, and there
are plenty more which have not yet caught our attention.
Finally,
once ALL those things are in place, the minister will
press the big green "GO" button ... and order
will be laid before parliament setting a date for "commencement",
which is when the Gender Recognition Panels can actually
consider applications. As
noted above, the officials in the Gender Recognition Division
are very keen to keep trans people fully informed about
progress. They have assured us that they will continue
to try to be as open as possible, using their website
and other means to make sure that everyone knows well
in advance how and when to apply. We
will all know that date well in advance, and PFC and other
groups in the trans community will be shouting it loudly.
You won't miss it!
Meanwhile,
the important point for YOU is to be aware that a LOT
of preparation work is still to be done ... and that most
of your questions cannot be answered and this stage. Please
remember that the answer to most detailed questions will
be "dunno yet". As usual, we do want to hear
from you if you reckon you may have a particular and unusual
problem in applying -- we want to help sort out any problems
in plenty of time.

We
have the tickets here for all major European pop, jazz,

The
thing about Michael is that he is different to other people.
Not just in the way he looks but in his whole outlook on life.
A simplicity and almost innocent ideology. Some would say naive...
maybe. One thing you cannot deny and that is pure talent and
that they can never take from him. So Michael molested children
did he? and pigs will fly. Of course he looks and aparently
behaves like the average pedo to the uneducated and rednecks
of society. And he looks like a target for a few million bucks
to any without a pot to pee in that would set him up. Let the
case be proved and if it is then we are wrong but somehow we
do not believe it will be other than in the gutter press which
isn't worth a light anyway.
So
Michael find all the strength you can to sit this one out and
get some good lawyers with brains! and if we may say so be a
little more careful in the future to set some distance between
you and the kids from under privilged homes that you provide
a refuge for.
Comment .. What do you think?
Channel
4 Sex Change Programme
Those
who watched the latest programme on changing sex from UK's Channel
4 television seem to have mixed views about it. From good to
well .. rather indifferent and the fact that transvestites may
have been portrayed as the sort of sexual thrills orientated
whilst transsexuals still require a head scan. The general consensus
though was well done Channel 4 and wow were some of the pictures
gruesome. I remember Russell Reid telling me once some years
ago that there was this guy in California who can "saw
your skull in two and then put it back together" .. Yuk!
In
a World exclusive crissywild.com can announce that the
mystery surrounding the wherabouts of Osama bin Laden
has finally been solved. crissywild.com confounded the
resources of the CIA when our special agents spotted Osama
now named Mistress Oriana Doll wandering out of Anne's
dressing room sporting a rather sexy pink number at Jimmy's
Bar in London. When pressed for an interview whilst negotiating
a bar stool she declined simply commenting "that
things had become rather difficult now in Afghanistan
for informal evenings out and that she had decided to
be more western in her approach". A spokesperson
at Jimmy's Bar would not elaborate but commented "We
cannot confirm or deny the identities of our customers.....
but we are seeking a supplier of specially adapted wigs
able to conceal an AK47 and 10lbs of C4 plastic explosive".
Needless to say the bar expects to be very busy for the
foreseeable future. So all you CIA people this is where
Jimmy's
bar is.
Transgendered
Saudis imprisoned
Nine
transgendered Saudis have each been sentenced to at least five
years in prison and more than 2,000 lashes for deviant sexual
behavior. The men were sentenced in the city of Qunfuda on Saturday.
The men are to be flogged between 48 and 52 times in 50 separate
sessions, with a pause of 15 days between floggings. The men
were convicted for cross-dressing.
Comment .. Not
a new story but caught our eye in the last year archives when
we were doing some research. Even by Islamic Sharia standards
this is a harsh one. Not much to say really about a Country
that still chops peoples heads off and slices them in two in
public while they are still alive and; many of whose rich priviliged
few regularly haunt the sex clubs in London. Deviant behaviour?
Now who's guilty of that. Sorry Saudi you are 500 years out
of date but the American tanks and Bush's war on terror will
probably help you catch up in due course.
Islam
and Transgenderism (comment)
An
Imam (a religious cleric) has assured us that having a sex change
does not contradict the teachings of Islam, which aim to serve
the interests of humanity and to ensure the happiness of people.

Situations
Vacant - CIA Assassin
The
CIA had an opening for an assassin.
After
all the background checks, interviews and testing were done,
there were 3 finalists...2 men and a woman.
For
the final test, the CIA agents took one of the men to a large
metal door and handed him a gun. "We must know that you
will follow your instructions, no matter what the circumstances.
Inside this room, you will find your wife sitting in a chair.
"Kill her!!!"
The
man said, "You can't be serious. I could never shoot my
wife." The agent said, "Then you're not the right
man for this job. Take your wife and go home."
The
second man was given the same instructions. He took the gun
and went into the room. All was quiet for about five minutes.
Then the man came out with tears in his eyes. "I tried,
but I can't kill my wife." The agent said, "You don't
have what it takes. Take your wife and go home."
Finally,
it was the woman's turn. She was given the same instructions
to kill her husband. She took the gun and went into the room.
Shots were heard, one shot after another. They heard screaming,
crashing, banging on the walls.
After
a few minutes, all was quiet. The door opened slowly and there
stood the woman. She wiped the sweat from her brow. "This
gun is loaded with blanks", she said. "I had to beat
him to death with the chair."
The mood of America has changed - Global objectives of America
seem to have changed - and future months will doubtless see
even more change. America and U.K. are beating war drums - after
Iraq who is next? - but there is no clear future target for
the anger. This is already translating into lack of toleration
of those who are different. One obvious target for the people's
rage is individuals with olive skin. Perhaps a less obvious
target will be transgendered and transsexual people. We urge
our readers, and especially our readers from the Middle East,
to take precautions to ensure their safety, especially in public
spaces like airports, train and bus stations, malls, parks,
and on the streets. Increased security at airports will result
in an insistence that photos on documents of identification
match the individual's appearance. Those who customarily fly
cross-dressed without matching ID may find themselves grounded,
and may be questioned by authorities. This is an issue primarily
of security, but prejudice against transpeople may make matters
worse.
Do
not fly with a passport that does not match your appearance
Those who customarily fly crossdressed might consider whether
it would be wiser not to do so. For those who decide to fly
crossdressed anyway, and for those who have transitioned gender
roles, we suggest you make sure your photo identification matches
your appearance. If it doesn't, now would be a good time to
get your ID updated. You should also consider carrying supporting
documents such as letters from your support group, therapist,
and physician explaining who you are and what you are doing.
If you should be removed from a flight, we suggest you not make
a fuss at the scene. Save your complaints for later, when they
will not put you in danger of being arrested.
New
Airport Body Scanners Several
new detection devices were deployed in Orlando International
Airport. These prototype machines will be tested here to determine
whether similar machines should be deployed nationwide. These
machines may potentially expose cross-dressing or cross-living
individuals to public challenge, humiliation, detainment, not
to mention flight delays! Transpeople should be aware of these
machines, and may want to oppose their deployment on the grounds
that they pose a violation of privacy. Information on how to
register opposition is given below.
The types of new machines include
two for baggage:
A device that uses low level
radio waves to scan for explosives residue.
The InVision CTX5500, a coherent scatter x-ray device that creates
a 3-D image of a bag’s contents.
Three new devices have been developed for scanning people:
The Rapiscan Secure 1000 body
scanner uses low-level x-rays that penetrate clothing and a
special camera to create a computer image of metal objects in
their exact locations on a passenger’s body. The Beringer
Ion Scan 400B, a walk through device that uses blasts of air
and a vacuum to loosen, apprehend, and analyze particles around
a person’s body, seeking traces of 40 types of explosive
and other hazardous material residue. It can also be programmed
to test for 60 different types of drugs. The Entry Scan 3 made
by Ion Track Instruments, a trace portal explosives detector,
that functions like the Beringer Ion Scan device above. In particular,
the Rapiscan Secure 1000 shows airport security personnel a
realtime image of your naked body. If you are, for example,
an FTM who is binding, they will see your breasts; if you are
packing, they will see your prosthesis. Security personnel are
viewing scans of same sex passengers, that is if you are presenting
as male, and you are asked or volunteer to go through one of
these scanners, a male security person will be viewing your
scanned image. It is unlikely that these people will be trained
in handling transgendered or transsexual passengers with sensitivity
or respect.
Once these new machines are
placed in service nationwide, the current zonal metal detection
devices are likely to remain in service for initial screening.
The new enhanced systems will
